Modifications required

As previously  mentioned the reason we went the kit route was so that we can modify the aircraft for accessibility. Getting in and out of a conventional aircraft proved very difficult (although not impossible) but if I could make it as simple as getting in and out of my car then that would be great.

Initially I did not have the required strength and I needed a lot of assistance. However after the Argus Cycle Tour I had developed enough power in the upper body to lift myself onto the wing and into the cockpit. This is really not very elegant so I still feel the kit route was the right way to go. Probably a lot more time consuming (not to mention funding) but in the end I am convinced that it will all be worth it.

There are two major modifications I require namely:

  • Access into and out of the aircraft
  • Hand controls for the rudder and brakes

Access

When I bought the kit I thought I will just cut a door in the side of the aircraft making it as easy as the car but I was over eager.
